Small Business Coaching on 3 Gifts To Give Your Business

By Allison Babb

As I write this, the holiday season is upon us in full swing.  As small business owners, we lead very busy lives.  We wake up, check email, make phone calls, run out to appointments, serve clients, make sales, and try to keep pace with what seems like a never-ending to-do list.

But as you move forward in the next year, there are 3 valuable gifts you can give yourself that may be the catalyst for tremendous growth and success for your business in the next year.

GIFT #1:  Lifestyle Compass

Put the to-do list aside, and bring out a clean sheet of paper.  Whether you are starting a home based business or you've been at it for a while, decide on the lifestyle you truly want to have with this business of yours.  If you’re not living that lifestyle yet, no worries, you can begin to build it as of today.  So often we leap into small business life focused on what we’re passionate about and how to sell our services, but never really planning how we’d actually like to live that out.

So stop.  Find a quiet spot, take a deep breath and become your own personal business coach.  A new year is waiting for you.  What is the business lifestyle you want to have in that New Year?  Is it more clients or is it actually a different business model with less clients.  Is it more meetings or less meetings.  Is it getting better at time management or is it delegating more.  Is it getting better at doing more things yourself or is it getting a coach, mentor, or partner to help you speed forward? What changes can you make to create the business lifestyle you truly want.

Before you decide on your projects, tasks, etc., chose to first give yourself the gift of knowing exactly what lifestyle you want to have so you can truly enjoy the results you create in your business.

GIFT #2:  Income Compass

A business plan can be a piece of paper  that gets written and filed away or it can be a living breathing document you refer to.  Something that helps you stay on track for achieving your income goals.  Your business plan should be your income compass.

It answers questions like… What’s your income goal?  What will you sell and how much of it do you need to sell to achieve your income goal?  Are there new packages or programs you can offer to achieve that goal?  Will you need to shift to a different business model to achieve that goal?  Will you need to adjust your revenue model (what you sell) to achieve that goal?

What will your marketing strategy be for selling each of the products and/or services that you offer?  Are there new marketing strategies to add?  Are there marketing strategies to ditch due to poor results?  Are there marketing strategies to tweak to achieve better results? Is it time to check in with your list of subscribers or clients on what they want so you can truly create and deliver the best value?

A clear plan is one of the best gifts you can give yourself and your business.  It’s time to stop winging it day to day, week to week, month to month.  PLAN your success and you may just find that you’ll experience a whole lot more of it.

GIFT #3 - Massive Action

We can often get ourselves imprisoned by indecision, second-guessing, perfecting, over-thinking, over-analyzing and even waiting for approval from others.  Essentially, perfection paralysis.  We come up with fantastic ideas but they either stay locked up in our minds or they stay in queue waiting for us to get everything perfect.

True confession… I have never executed anything that was 100% perfect or flawless.  And I don’t know of a single business owner who has either.  You see, business is filled with little imperfections and the sooner we embrace that reality, the faster we move forward.  So let’s quit trying to make it all perfect.  I’m not encouraging a sloppy business here, but you don’t need to be perfect either.  People need your products, your services and they need your help.  Step into action... massive action, to reach throngs of folks with your marketing, your website, your services, your products.  They’re waiting.

Design your day to achieve peak results. Execute your marketing actions before you hit “check mail.”  Unplug the phone for a couple hours to complete that new product, program, or marketing campaign.  Block out an hour to call some potential joint venture partners.  Choose to focus heavily on revenue-generating tasks first  vs administrative tasks.  Carve out some no-excuses time daily where you focus and ruthlessly execute your top income-generating priorities.

As you take giant strides into the New Year, give yourself the gift of massive action.  The results may just amaze you… and your bank account.

So there you have it.  A wise man/woman would do well to bring these 3 gifts into their business for the next 12 months ahead.  Live it.
